ACT Boot Camp or any literature unit

I teach in Northern Michigan, so this might be a north of M-72 appeal and Eastern UP interest: Is anyone interested in meeting to put together a Grammar or ACT prep boot camp &/or literature unit compilation for students in grades 9 through 11? Seniors could be fine as well, it is just that I don't know how aligned we are with that group.

I am going to throw out this idea to my department members, asking if anyone is interested in meeting with other area teachers to do this. I think it would be an excellent collection of resources/knowledge etc., especially since we are seeing so many weaknesses in the Macomb units, yet we are expected to use them.

If we could align the units with the upcoming Core Standards vs. the current HSCEs, we might be ahead of the game.

I don't care if we meet in the summer, but I think it is silly so many of us are struggling with the same thing.

I would be willing. I'm doing my own "version" of boot camp right now and I wish it were a lot better. Where do you teach? I'm in Ellsworth.

Me,too! I feel like I know the ACT better than I do my husband! :) I don't know if you got my email, but I'd love to be a part, but I didn't pay attention to the UP part. I live by the Indiana line...but if we can do it long distance, I'd love to help! :)

I teach in Petoskey! We are almost neighbors. I have to laugh because I feel the same way about ACT prep, etc.

I wanted to let you know that Char-Em is giving us (English teachers) time the 2nd 1/2 of May 12th's meeting to work on the Reading portion of the ACT. If you would like to join us there, you are more than welcome. I know that Karen Peterson from Charlevoix plans to be there.
