Contemporary Romanticism

The unit plan includes the reading of The Perks of being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. During the unit, the students explore themes within the novel and how they are relevant to Romanticism themes in a more contemporary context. The unit also integrates technology by the use of a daily blog, creating a short video clip on animoto.com, and a final podcast project.

I love this novel! I have it on the self-selected reading shelf in my room, but there would be high mutiny if we directly tried to discuss the content in our school...Love some of the modern YA~

I completely agree with you! However, my professor was greatly intrigued by controversial young adult novels. Hence, I created a unit plan centered around this piece. However, I'm not quite sure I'd actually implement this unit in an actual classroom.
