Opportunity for Preservice Teachers--Lake Michigan Writing Project

Dear future teachers,

Consider applying for an internship with the Lake Michigan Writing Project this summer. These internships offer a chance to work alongside practicing teachers in West Michigan as they innovate creative writing instruction. The LMWP will hire four undergraduates with training in teaching, editing, or writing. These four undergraduate or graduate interns will assist with the Young Writers Camps at GVSU. The primary responsibility of interns will be conferring--coaching youth from grades 3-12 to improve as writers. Interns may also provide writing prompts, edit texts, offer grammar instruction, lead discussions among young writers, compose texts, and share these with campers. We also hope to hire one intern with experience in photography and photo-journalism. Camps are planned to be fun for kids. While enabling kids to have fun, interns must be impeccably professional and supportive of young writers. Background checks will be required and paid for by the LMWP.

To honor excellent work, interns may request letters of recommendation from the local K-12 teachers who run the camps. Director will document community service hours.

All camps meet from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm for 4 days:

• Allegan: July 9-12: Grades 4-6 in the Fall

• Allendale: July 9-12: Grades 7-12 in the Fall

at GVSU's Allendale (Main) Campus

• Belding: June 25-28: Grades 3-6 in the Fall

at Belding Middle School Media Center

• Grand Rapids: July 9-12: Grades 3-5 in the Fall

at GVSU's Pew (Downtown) Campus

• Grand Rapids: July 9-12: Grades 6-8 in the Fall

at GVSU's Pew (Downtown) Campus

• Grand Rapids: July 16-19: Grades 9-12 in the Fall
