I have noticed lately that students in my college classes seem to have different expectations and standards of excellence for books than for movies. What might be a fun and entertaining way to spend a couple of hours at the movies doesn't necessarily translate into a great read. Recently, my students read The Lovely Bones (Alice Sebold) in class. Zombieland in the Classroom
In the course of helping with the Writing Improvement (WI) class yesterday, the English teacher and I had a brainstorm: Zombieland!

Writing Project participation
This past school year was horrendous. Then I was extended an invitation to participate in the Chippewa River Writing Project Summer Institute. At a Spring Showcase, I spoke with a former college professor and mentor. Explaining that I felt on the verge of teacher burnout (after only 10 years!), she encouraged me by saying, "This is just what you need!" She was right -- this wonderful opportunity for professional development renewed my dedication and refreshed my spirit.
